Write with us
We want to celebrate your experience in professional and technical writing.
At Technically We Write, we believe that everyone needs to know how to write well. It doesn’t matter if your job title is “technical writer” or something else, everyone does some kind of technical and professional writing.
We’ve shared hundreds of articles by over 30 authors, including articles about how to get the most out of applications and technologies used in technical writing, informational articles about writing, technical definitions that provide “deep dive” information, and other articles about tips & tricks and the writing process.
We want to celebrate your experience in professional and technical writing, and we encourage everyone to share an article. Our door is wide open to all skill levels, including first-time authors, professional writers and editors, and anyone in between.
If you’d like to write with us but aren’t sure where to start, here are a few suggestions for your first article:
Write about your favorite writing application and describe how to use it for a task you do all the time. For example, you might write an article about the different ways to format a table in Microsoft Word, or how to use paragraph styles in LibreOffice, or how to collaborate with another writer using Google Docs. These might be “everyday” topics to you, but they will be new to someone else. Share what you know to help them get started.
Share a technical description about a concept in technical or professional writing. A technical description is an article that answers “what is..” to describe a thing or process, such as what is a buckling spring keyboard or what is a typographic point.
Explain the history of something related to writing. Our readers enjoy reading about the history and development of the tools we use everyday, such as early desktop word processors or how authors worked with the first document preparation systems. For example, you might write about why Times New Roman 12-point, double spaced, became such a popular format for writing academic papers.
Describe the writing process for how you create content. Do you prefer to write a rough draft and rewrite it for a final version? Do you use AI to generate ideas for your writing? Everyone has a different process, depending on their role and the audience they are writing for. Our readers enjoy learning about how others approach writing.
Interview a colleague or peer about their experiences in technical or professional writing. This doesn’t need to be someone who is a working professional writer; you could also interview a project manager about writing status reports or a supervisor about writing performance evaluations or an organizational leader about writing strategic plans.
Note that we only run articles that are connected to technical writing, such as tools, technologies, tips, and so on. However, we never run AI-generated content; please tell us if your article has contributions by an AI. We are also cautious about ads disguised as articles, and we always check links before we run the articles.
As of March 2025, we’ve shifted our publication schedule to Tuesdays. This is to better align with our “sister” publication, Coaching Buttons, which publishes new articles about organizational leadership and open organizations every Monday and Wednesday. Publishing new articles on Technically We Write on Tuesdays allows us to highlight contributors on both sites by sharing items on social media every day, as they are published.
