welcome Technically We Write has a wide audience

We are a small website with a dedicated community, and we love that you're here with us.

We started Technically We Write as a community website in May 2023. When we first launched the website, we published five articles per week, although we eventually scaled that back to one per week. Overall, we've published over 330 articles from over 30 authors. We are a small website with a dedicated community, and we love that you're here with us.

Looking at our website statistics, we have over 15,000 unique visitors to our website each week, not including "AI" bots. Our busiest days have been on Tuesdays, when we publish new articles, although we recently increased to two per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) which we expect to maintain throughout the summer.

There is no one great article on the website; there's something for everyone. In the last week, our "top articles" report includes recent submissions like our look back at printing in the 1980s, Robin's 3 ways to write paragraphs, and Jim's making citations and references in groff.

But the "most popular" articles also include older items, such as Jim's item from 2023 about code listings in LaTeX, Robin's entry from 2023 about 4 popular word processors, Don's article from last year about using LibreOffice from the command line, and Robin's 2023 article about multi-column layout in Word. The oldest item in this week's "top articles" report is Jim's retrospective on WordStar 4.0 for DOS from June 2023.

We want to celebrate all forms of technical and professional writing. As you can see, our readers have a wide range of interests, from writing tools and technologies, editing, usability, web SEO, and anything else you can put under the "technical and professional writing" umbrella. Here are five ways you can write your first article:

Share a time-saving trick you use. Everyone wants to be more efficient in how they write, and there are many ways to tackle the same task. For example, did you set up custom keyboard shortcuts in LibreOffice? Or, have you figured out how to configure a new theme for your text editor? Have you recently discovered how to create a custom document template? Write an article to show others what you've learned how to do.

Write about something you've learned. Share something you've learned about writing, or about how to do something more quickly in an app you use all the time. This doesn't have to be a "rock the world" mind-blowing idea; remember, what's obvious to you will be a starting point for someone else.

Explain how to do an everyday task. You probably have a task that you do all the time, and a favorite application to use. Share a common task that you do all the time, and show how you do it. For example, how do you create a new page in a website managed by Drupal? Or, how do you format a project status report in Word? Our readers love to learn about how others do their work.

Tell us why you love writing. Many of us got into technical or professional writing not just for the job, but because we honestly love writing. Share your personal journey into your writing career. Why did you get into technical writing? What do you love most about what you do? Everyone has a unique story to tell, and these can be very inspirational to others who are entering the field.

Share an article with a new audience. If you've already written something about technical or professional writing, consider re-publishing it on Technically We Write. We might be a new audience for your idea. Just let us know in advance if this article ran elsewhere; we don't mind republishing (and in fact, we'll link to your other article if you wish) but we may leave a few weeks between publishing on the other website and re-running it on our website. Or, explore the art of the rewrite and update or revise your article for a new audience at Technically We Write.
